AURORA BOREALIS

LUMINOUS GREEN FINGERS OF LIGHT DANCE THEIR WAY ACROSS THE STAR-STUDDED SKY - THE AURORAL BOREALIS IS A MESMERIZING LIGHT SHOW LIKE NO OTHER IN THE WORLD.

It's cold like you've never experienced before. so cold that despite numerous layers, even your spine feels chilled. your eyelashes are frozen together, and you lost sensation in your fingers hours ago. You start to wonder if this night will never end - and if you do make it through morning, whether frostbite will have claimed a toe or two.

Just as you begin to question why you ever signed up for this, a smudge appears in the dark sky above, barely visible to the naked eyes. The aura hunter gazes upwards, and your group comes alive, murmuring to one another in anticipation. The smudge begins to grow, and becomes tinged with green, gradually morphing into a vivid, luminous shade. The ethereal glow dances across the star-studded sky, constantly evolving into different shaped ribbons, streaks and wisps.

Intuit mythology claims these light shows are signals from the afterlife. You understand why. No fireworks display or sound-and-light show could complete this. The group murmurs is disbelief, whispering so as not to break the spell.

As suddenly as the incredible display starts, it ends. You're one of the lucky few to catch such a spectacle. Each year, thousands tramp miles seeking isolation bereft of light pollution, enduring freezing, pitch-black nights in vain. As you rouse your frozen body, feeling the blood surge into your toes, you start the long trek back, with a satisfied smile on your face and images of dancing lights filling your head.
